Letta, Garden historian David Robb plays F.E.A.R. 2, West Hampstead

Letta, Garden historian

Remember that Gardening History evening class I mentioned before? Well this is Letta, the teacher. Her name and appearance suited her profession I thought at the time, and still do. In this picture she is packing away her slides after the lesson.

Portobello Road The kitchen, after a leak from the flat upstairs

Portobello Road

Rapido (famous for making Rapido with Antoine ee Caunes and of course Eurotrash –who could forget that?) had offices at Notting Hill when I first started working there, and I used to enjoy popping out at lunchtime and exploring the local area a bit.

Debbie Young, Film Archive Producer, Notting Hill Bus

I first worked with Debbie at The Clip Shop in the mid 1990s. She was an ace archive researcher who went on to become a producer working across a lot of interesting TV projects and even films more recently. She was famous for her brightly coloured hair, her love of exotic travel, and for being top at her job and great fun. We worked together in 1999 on a series called ‘Unzipped’ for Rapido. It was quite an experience.

Deli, West End Lane Scary light probe, UCLH

Deli, West End Lane

This was a great shop run by a really wonderful Italian guy, just opposite where we lived on Finchley Road. Among lots of other lovely things it sold good wine and Italian beer, those Portuguese custard tarts, and great takeaway coffee. Plus it was open from really early until about 9pm. Brilliant, but sadly gone now.

Park, Golders Green

Looking at this picture now I’m impressed by how many spring flowers are out. London is rightly renowned for its plentiful pockets of greenery and flowerbeds.

I like the way the man and the boy are staring at the car, while all around them the women and girls come and go.

David Bradbury, Wimbledon Common

This is Dave Bradbury holding his shoe for some reason, striking an intriguing pose. He was living in Tooting back then and we’d gone for a stroll on the common which was not too far from his flat.

Ilya Gregory, Emma Shephard, Charlotte Street House renovation in Hampstead

Ilja and Emma, Charlotte Street

Ilja is on the left and Emma is on the right. I like the way their blue eyes sparkle in this picture. Emma is still one of my greatest friends but Ilja I don’t see anymore. I met them both when I was doing an MA at the British Film Institute and we had some great times along with the rest of our group.

Renovation or demolition? House in Hampstead

I've been following the progress of this unusual building for the last ten years or so. Look out for pictures of it from 1999 in future editions of Ten Year Leap.
