Me and Lolo, Rapido Party, Great Pulteney Street Yes this is Lolo Ferrari, the star of Eurotrash, famous for her huge, cosmetically enhanced bust (reputedly measuring 71inches). She was billed as the “Woman with the biggest breasts in the world” and made a career as a porn star. She was one of the ‘celebrities’ present at the Rapido party held to celebrate the company’s move from Notting Hill to Soho. It was a pretty good party on a Hawaiian theme, and we all got smashed on Maitai’s and had our photos taken with Lolo. Sadly, almost exactly a year after this picture was taken Lolo died under rather mysterious circumstances; she had been suffering from depression, and was on a lot of drugs to help her cope with both that and her physically distorted body, but after a post mortem it was revealed that she had probably died from mechanically induced suffocation. Her husband was arrested and imprisoned for a year, but later released. I vividly remember having my photo taken with her, she had the tiniest hands I have ever held, and sitting really close to her was obviously very difficult because of knocking against her boobs. |

Book shop in Notting Hill This shop has gone now. I liked the look of this elderly couple and their dog browsing the second hand bargains outside the shop. |

Steenbeck at the BBC The Steenbeck machines were used for viewing archive footage that hadn’t been transferred onto tape formats. I was probably looking for archive for the ‘Royalty Unzipped’ documentary I was researching. For more information on these machines go here |

Brighton Pier The day after the wedding – I guess we went down to the pier. I like the delicate white lines of the roller coaster against the brittle blue of the sky. |

Nick and Julia get married in Brighton This was a lovely day! Nick Pettigrew married his girlfriend Julia at the Grand Hotel and a gang of us went down for the weekend to help them celebrate. Nick worked at the BFI and had become friends with RT, my boyfriend at the time. It was a great treat swanning around the poshest hotel in Brighton for the day. |

Shop in Westbourne Grove, W10 There were lots of interesting antique shops in the Westbourne Grove area, and there still are. I particularly liked the juxtaposition of the tiger rug with the rather strange painting of the child gymnast, and the potted geranium. The tiger’s face is quite terrifying, but his pelt is faded and thin. The stack of old frames behind the display also looks worth a rummage. |
