Garden History Evening Class quiz

Who says evening classes aren’t a laugh a minute! Especially when it’s the end of term and you’re having a quiz. I remember the woman in the tartan suit showing her slip, she had a rather frightening face. That bloke in the background was the only bloke in the class, and the husband of one of the other ladies. I learnt a lot about knot gardens, parterres and courtly love during those classes!

Me, 471a Finchley Road

I really loved this denim waistcoat and I still have it somewhere. In fact this was definitely a stock outfit for me – purple cords bought in bargain shop in Notting Hill, comfy sensible shoes, and that denim waistcoat. Daisy the cat is clearly impressed.

Gordon Laing, Personal Computer World, Soho Square Curly Robb, Dexter Robb

Gordon Laing, Editor of Personal Computer World, Soho Square

I went to university with Gordon and we ended up working around the corner from each other in Soho after we graduated. Gordon was one of life’s great all-rounders – a brilliant scientist, he was also passionate about photography, music and style, and a great writer which he put to great use in his work. He zoomed up the career ladder while the rest of us were still wondering what to do with ourselves, and then wrote a book called Digital Retro: The Evolution And Design Of The Personal Computer, which is a lot more fun than it sounds. We’ve lost touch now, but I think he lives in New Zealand with his wife and I believe children too. I made him walk across Soho Square looking ‘natural’ when I took this picture, and being a good bloke, he obliged.

Sweets, Sainsbury's at Finchley Road O2 Centre

A great pick and mix counter this, They don’t have sweets for sale like this anymore mores the pity, and now that Woolworths has gone sweet-lovers like me do wonder where the next sweet fix is going to come from. It isn’t just the sweets themselves either, it’s the colour and texture of the packaging, the massedness of them all together like this, and the job of picking a good mix.
