Regent’s Park, 9 am
This is a special picture and I remember taking it vividly. Occasionally with this project I was in the right place at the right time with my camera, and this of course was in the days before mobile phones had cameras on them. I used to walk to work sometimes through Regents Park when the weather was good and I had the energy. On this early morning a military band were practicing in the trees. Only the commuters, dog-walkers and joggers were there to hear them.

Piccadilly Circus, Lunchtime
Busy people in a busy place. When I was younger Tower Records at Piccadilly Circus seemed like a glamorous and sincere place to buy records.. The people who worked there were real musos and took their jobs really seriously. I’m not even sure if Tower Records is still there now – it hasn't been a very good few years for record shops.

O2 Centre, Finchley Road
At the top of the escalators is a lovely big window that gives great views of the sunsets over West Hampstead. When this picture was taken this part of the centre was just a nice free space, now a franchise selling designer (is there any other kind these days?) glasses occupies the area. The effect of this on the sunrises though is quite good; every beam of light bounces off a hundred or so lenses and glass display units. Dazzling.

Bridle Lane, Soho
One of those mysterious side streets in Soho that goes around the back of places. It was on the way home from where I worked, and on this occasion was wet and greasy from the rain. The flash on my camera has illuminated the boxes of rubbish and a few peeling fly posters in the foreground. A man and his dog I think can just be seen half way into the picture on the left.

Janet, Steyning
Here is my mum, looking every inch the monarch of the rockery (definitely a touch of the Dame Judi Dench about her here I think). Mum is one of the best gardeners I know, though she doesn’t show off about it. She transformed the gardens in both the houses I grew up in.

Caroline and Zachary in Brighton
Well this is a blast from the past, I wasn’t expecting to see a picture of Caroline here. Zachary you’ve already encountered before. This picture of him shows off his razor sharp cheek bones and the smile he had. When I was a teenager I used to think that Zach had a touch of the James Dean’s about him. I see that likeness again here. Caroline was also old school acquaintance. When this picture was taken she was living with another old school friend of mine and they seemed to be the ideal couple. However, it wasn’t long after this photograph was taken that that all proved to be just a front. I must have gone down to visit Carrie and her boyfriend, and obviously Zach was there too, I think I remember us drinking in the Belle Vue, but apart from that, I don’t remember much about the visit at all (Maybe on account of the drinks imbibed at the Belle Vue).

The Blue Posts, Soho
A favourite Soho drinking hole. This picture probably marks the beginning of summertime, as far as outdoors drinking is concerned anyway. This is always a very busy corner, at the meting of Broadwick Street and Berwick Street where the market is. Actually, I don’t think I’ve ever had a drink here, but I’ve definitely used the toilets.
