Rob Turnock, Finchley Road Maggie Robb, Curly Robb, Sarah Fishburn, Dexter Robb, West Hampstead

RT, Finchley Road

RT was writing a book for the BFI during this time, and used my desk to write it at. I was quite jealous of his laptop computer! On the wall behind him you can see a photo of one of my favourite cinema buildings and a cutting from an old movie magazine from the 1920s featuring an advert for a missing fifteen-year-old girl who was thought to have run away to seek employment in the movie industry. I tried to trace what happened to her, but never did manage to find anything – she’s lost in history now. The painting of the badger playing with some balls and a hoop on the left of the notice board was a joke painted by my mum.

John Godfrey, Rapido, post-it notes Top Deck, Number 16 to Cricklewood

John Godfrey’s computer, Rapido

This is a disappointing picture because you can’t see the detail on all the post-it notes that were stuck around John’s computer screen. He was the series editor on Unzipped, and spent about twelve hours a day at work either sitting in front of this computer of down in the edit suites as the programmes came together. He was a good bloke to work for, once you got used to it.

Kitchen, Finchley Road flat Emma Shepherd, Dexter Robb, West Hampstead

VR, Finchley Road flat

Both VR and LPH were good cooks, and both of them were vegetarian. You can see my favourite green toaster in the background. That was often about as close to cooking as I got.

Kitchen, Finchley Road flat

This was supposed to be some kind of still life, but as you can see, the picture came out a bit too blurry. The red of the strawberries contrasted nicely with the cream jug and the green foliage of the herbs inside the jug, if you can make all that out beyond the fuzzy images.

Helen Womersley, Thames Dexter Poster, London Underground

Helen Womersley, Thames

Helen never liked this picture, but I always found it was one of my favourites. I think because it captured her mid roll-up and mid conversational flow, though of course I’ve long since forgotten what we were talking about. I do remember that we were with RT and that we had just been up and down the Monument tower and were enjoying an afternoon drink al fresco at a pub we all liked a lot down on the Thames Path not far from the South Bank.

Camden Market Ariadne Yates, Jonas Yates

Camden Market

They’ve spent millions of pounds since this picture was taken renovating and modernizing the stables market. This stall is long gone, there’s probably a Starbucks there now.

Regent's Park cab driver’s café, Haverstock Hill, Hampstead

Regent's Park

Another picture taken on my walk to and from work through the park. It was quite a long walk to work, and must have taken at least an hour and a half, but I really enjoyed it and it was a great way to unwind after another fraught day at Rapido, or to psyche myself up for the day ahead if I was heading in to town.
