Brick Lane, E1
This is in fact Fournier Street, one of the most intersting and beautiful streets in the east end. In 1999 this whole area was definitely on the up, but it still felt like there was a link back to its days as a Jewish ghettho when there was a fruit and veg market at the end of this street in Spitalfields Market. The artists Gilbert and George lived here and still do, and you could often see them walking around together in their matching suits. The figure in the middle of the photo must be Dave.

Tower Blocks
I think these are on the way to Camden. They’re very ugly.

Me and Betty, Hemel Hempstead
Betty is my grandmother and this photo was taken outside her flat in Hemel Hempstead where she still lives today at the age of 91.

Baby monitor, West Hampstead
The baby monitor. Dexter went to sleep on his own tonight, but we’re still waiting for the green lights to start flashing.

Shelley’s Grave, Bournemouth
We discovered this little graveyard the morning that we left, and I was very glad to make a pilgrimage to Mary Shelley’s grave. She was buried here in 1851 having died a the age of 54 in London. I’m not sure why she ended up being buried in BoMo.

Corfe castle, outside Bournmouth
We’d have gone on a long walk to see this. It’s a great ruin, on a wonderful site. It looks as though we had beautiful walking conditions.

Bournmouth, Beach Huts
I really like Bournemouth, but then I like most seaside places. There is this little grove of beach huts at Bournemouth that I particularly like the look of. They’re such an English thing, beach huts. These ones are along the long prom at Bo Mo, further along the coast from here and you come to the ferry that runs on a chain.

Cricket world cup, Tottenham Court Road
Those were the days before mobile phones with wifi. There is something touching about seeing a random clutch of grown men drawn to a shop window with such concentration as this. The 1999 World Cup was won by Australia who beat Pakistan by 8 wickets, the tournament was hosted by the UK and the Netherlands.
