Camden, from 2020 Television Dexter helps change the duvet cover

Camden, from 2020 Television

I really enjoyed working for this company, even though I was only there for a few weeks. Meredith Chambers was the director of the documentary I was employed on, a celebration of the life and works of Oliver Reed. I remember there was one computer in the whole building with access to the internet and we all had to take turns using it.

Camden, morning before work Horrible Worms, West Hampstead

Camden, morning before work

Before I worked there I’d never seen Camden at this time in the morning. This rail bridge crossed over the old stables and the message on it “ I wish I worked in Hampstead” often made me smile when I came this way. Just to the left of the picture a trendy pub called the Hawthorne Arms sprang up between ’99 and last year, when it burned down, causing much over excitement amongst hipsters.

The Freemason’s Arms, Hampstead Kavita Jindal meets Dexter Robb

The Freemason’s Arms, Hampstead

I’m sure I had persuaded RT to meet me here after work one evening. It’s a great pub with a massive garden and in all my fourteen years of living in London I’ve frequented it. I have hazy memories of drinking here on the weekend that all day drinking was extended to Sundays....and there have been other excessive booze-ups in its garden. Not so much these days though.

Short-cut, Hampstead The corner where a couple of weeks ago Dexter had a meltdown

Short-cut, Hampstead

The lovely thing about working in Camden was that I could walk to and from work, this short cut was on my route. Since 1999 the path has been tidied up and tarmaced and looks a lot more fancy. I can’t take it anymore though because the gravel at the bottom isn’t very pushchair friendly.

It still gives me the chills when I walk past it now, but thankfully we’ve had no more pram-based tantrums since then.

My bed, 471a Finchley Road

Looking at this picture now I’m struck by two facts – 1) that there is a picture of Miffy the rabbit on the top shelf and my four month old son Dexter likes Miffy, and 2) That Dave and I went to see a flat today that we might rent, and somehow comparing my home of ten years ago with the place we might be moving to in the next few months is a brain stretch.

Churchyard, Hampstead. NW3

This church is in a chocolate box street in Hampstead village, on my walk home from Camden to Finchley Road. It’s a beautiful place and the graveyard across the street has some wonderful graves and statutory. Being in Hampstead is nothing like living in London.

Restaurant, Hampstead. NW3

When I took this picture I’d never actually been inside the Weng Wah house. Now, as several of you can vouch, I have not only been inside but I have Kareoked the night away in the upstairs room. I sang ‘O Bla di Oh Bla da’ by The Beatles. Ah Memories.
