Hardware store, Portobello Road
The same old plastic stuff you an still buy in shops like this there now. I liked the way the brooms are all stuffed together in the bucket. Even now it makes me want to buy one.

Primary school opposite Watchmaker
I took this from the roof of the Watchmaker building. Interesting to think that all these children will be adults by now. I was in this area yesterday and it hadn’t changed much. Except that of course there is no Watchmaker anymore, and the huge Westfield shopping centre is just a stone’s throw away from the playground now.

Empty meeting room at Watchmaker
This is the kind of place a lot of production offices have – the room where all the old furniture and fittings gets dumped and where meetings are held, because there’s nowhere else big and private enough to get everyone in. If there were any windows in this room I’ve forgotten where they were, and I can practically hear the hum of those awful ceiling lights just looking at the picture. I think I had requisitioned it for my taping machines where I used to compile the reels of footage for the writers of our show to work from.

David Robb’s fresh tattoo
I was pretty impressed with Dave’s tattoo because he stuck to his guns about what he wanted and had text in quite a bold font so it was quite a dramatic effect. You can still where the skin is pink underneath. I find something very poignant about this picture too. I think it’s because he’s facing away from the camera and seems kind of vulnerable.

Nikki Crabb at my birthday party
A lovely picture of Nikki this one. I always think I can hear her laughing when I see it. After the big dinner came the big party – in the upstairs room of a pub in Soho. The womens’ toilets flooded and no-one turned up until about 10pm.... And I had to keep reassuring the bar staff that I actually was having a party, and no they couldn’t just open up the top floor to all and sundry. It was only RT keeping me calm that kept me from losing it.

My 30th Birthday dinner
I was really chuffed that my parents came all the way up to London to help me celebrate my big birthday. Organising the event was a bit stressful though, I seem to remember. In the foreground are Helen and her then boyfriend Arran, Next to RT is David Bradbury – of course! And just seen next to my Dad is Fiona. The restaurant was in Portobello. I seem to remember freaking out about my teeth later on in the evening – a classic fear of ageing sign. I’m so over that now!
