Bicycle W10 Toad in the hole, Willesden Green

Bicycle W10

This bike blending back into nature was in a street parallel to Portobello Road. It must have been a tacit agreement between the people who lived in the house, and the people who cleaned the streets. A nice little lost bit of London.

Spitalfields Market Café

The old food hall at Spitalfields was great! Fabulous curries and chinese grub – all served up hot and heavy on paper plates. These days it all Giraffe cafes and other chain restaurants.

Trellick Tower John Braime and Matthew at Writloud where I was doing a reading

Trellick Tower

One of my favourite London landmarks. Apparently flats in this building used to sell for quite a lot of money once the council had decided to sell them off. It dominates the skyline in the West of the City, unlike its lesser known ‘sister’ building close to the Blackwall Tunnel in the Poplar region. The towers were designed by Erno Goldfinger and the Trellick Tower was completed in 1972. It’s 98 metres tall fact fans.

Richard Watcham and Rachael Clarke, W10 Grandma and Grandpa Robb with Dexter, Queens Park

Richard Watcham and Rachael Clarke, W10

Two of my colleagues on the programme I was making. Rachael was one of the best ‘celebrity bookers’ in TV and a lovely person with a great sense of humour and a totally charming personality. She once dressed up as school girl Britney Spears and looked more like Britney than Britney. Richard was terrific too, though it took us longer to bond as I’d been brought in to be his ‘boss’ on the programme and he wasn’t too happy about it at first – understandably. One we’d worked things out though we became good friends and he’s now super-powered producer with a wife and two children (at the last count –maybe it’s more by now).

Great Dane, Hyde Park Woman with two big pumpkins, Sainsburys NW3

Great Dane, Hyde Park

A pretty impressive dog, and I remember how the light was fading when I took this picture. What you don’t get from this snap is a sense of the dog’s size It was massive.

David Robb, Barbican British Heart Foundation furniture shop, NW2

David Robb, Barbican

The first proper picture of Dave, and one of my favourite ever pictures of him. We sometimes met up at the Barbican at weekends as it was very sleepy and peaceful out there by the pools. He’d had a haircut not long before I took this picture, and though I might be biased now, I think he looks gorgeous here. Seeing this picture again after ten years brings back a lot of memories – which probably sounds crazy ten months into this project, but some pictures are just special.

Coffee table, E1 Audrey and Dexter after Baby Bounce, NW2

Coffee table, E1

A blurry shot, no doubt my blurry mental capacities when it was taken. The blue, red and yellow objects to the left are wind up toys for the bath, and the picture in the right does indeed seem to be of a man riding an emu. The eponymous coffee table was an old cable wheel covered in fake cowhide fabric. It was a very particular relic.
